Beat the Texas Heat at Sno Island

Soul Food Truck Fest premiered in Austin, TX in Fall 2017, giving the city a must-needed festival that celebrated minority-owned food trucks.

For its first year, the SFTF received an overwhelming response with over 2,000 people attending the festival at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center.

Cuisine varied from BBQ to Cajun seafood to artisan grilled cheese sandwiches to vegan soul food to chicken and waffles and more. Also, there were several arts and crafts vendors, a kid’s station, and a live DJ.

Soul Food Truck Fest 2018 will be bigger and better! We’ll be highlighting the vendors participating this year. Our first vendor is Sno Island.

Sno Island and the New Orleans-style Sno-ball

Sno Island, owned and operated by the Reese family, Regina and Haven, and their daughter, Arayla, specializes in New Orleans-style sno-balls. With more character than a regular snow cone, Sno Island’s sno-ball gets its flavors from ingredients straight from New Orleans.

Inspired by the joy and quality time she and her daughter spent at their favorite snow cone shop before it closed suddenly, Regina set out to create a unique sno-ball taste and experience that you can’t find anywhere else in Austin.

Sno Island has been whipping up their creative, whimsical, and delicious sno-balls since 2017.

What are the flavors?

They have 36 flavors to choose from, including banana, blue coconut, strawberry, mango, cotton candy, root beer, granny smith apple, strawberry cheesecake, wedding cake, and more. They even have a dill pickle flavor for you pickle lovers.

In addition, Sno Island has 5 toppings for customers to add to their sno-balls: cream, chamoy, sour spray, pickles, and caramel.

Which sno-ball do people rave about the most?

Most people who try their sno-balls fall in love with the pina colada, blue coconut, mango, pineapple, tiger’s blood (strawberry-watermelon with a hint of coconut), and blue raspberry.

Where can you find Sno Island?

Sno Island will be expanding into a larger business in the future, but in the meantime, you can catch them at various Texas food festivals. Follow them on Facebook, and be sure to check out Sno Island at the Soul Food Truck Festival this October! #ITISRETURNS
