Black-Owned Wiches Waffles & Wings Restaurant Opens in Lakeline Mall

Walk into Wiches Waffles & Wings, and you’ll smell the aroma of delicious seasoning and the sweetness of syrup.

This Black-owned brick and mortar is a new addition to Lakeline Mall and is a must-visit. Owner Reginald Curry said the idea for his business started when he was thinking up creative ways to please customers at the barbershop he owns in Leander.

People who came to his house for parties and events always complimented him on the amazing flavor of his food. Curry decided to apply culinary skills to serve up hearty and delicious sandwiches and wings to the “hungry fellas” patronizing his barbershop.

Then, in 2016, he expanded his menu to include waffle dishes and opened the Wiches Waffles & Wings food truck in Leander. His menu was a huge hit and a delight to all who came to visit while the truck was stationed in Leander.

As business boomed, the truck became so busy, that Curry decided to expand. In early 2019, Curry opened his brick and mortar location in Austin. Wiches Waffles & Wings serves up 7 different waffles styles, 7 different sandwiches, and a variety of wing flavors.

People love the Grilled Chicken Pesto Sandwich.

It’s a toasted sourdough bread with a basil and spinach pesto, melted provolone cheese, chicken that’s been marinated in their special marinade, and fire-roasted, sweet bell peppers. The sandwich has a great crunch with a sweet and creamy center.

The Cuba Gooding, Jr. Sandwich is also a popular sandwich. It’s a play on a standard Cuban sandwich. The Cuban bun is imported from Miami and has smoked pork belly, thin sliced ham, pulled pork, ground mustard, sweet horseradish pickle, and melted Swiss cheese.

Curry said the one waffle that stands out the most for customers is the El Patron. It’s a jalapeño and cheddar-infused waffle, topped with chorizo, eggs, queso fresco, and finished off with a cilantro crema.

Of course, the wings come in the classic flavors with some remixes like Sweet Carib-yaki. Not only is the food delicious, but it’s also affordable. Curry says what sets his business apart is their attention to detail and affordability.

Curry said, “I price my food so that you feel like you get value for what you’re getting….that you come in and have a good experience, and come back!” Whether you’re close by or a bit of a drive to Lakeline Mall, Wiches Waffles & Wings is definitely worth the visit.
