In this episode of Classical Music in Color, Judlyne Gibson features the emergence of Europe’s first orchestra of color: The Chineke! Orchestra of England. It was formed just two years ago by Chi-Chi Nwanoku OBE. Nwanoku, a double bass player and child of an Irish Mother and Nigerian Father was often the only person of color in the many orchestras she has played in. The Chineke! Orchestra recently made its debut at the BBC Proms, a festival of classical music, becoming the youngest and first orchestra of color to perform at the 103 year old annual event. Judlyne Lilly-Gibson hosts KMFA BY REQUEST and STACCATO on KMFA 89.5. Classical Music in Color is sponsored by IOKTS Productions Black History Calendars.
