Europe’s first orchestra of color is The Chineke! Orchestra of England.

In this episode of Classical Music in Color, Judlyne Gibson features the emergence of Europe’s first orchestra of color: The Chineke! Orchestra of England.  It was formed just two years ago by Chi-Chi Nwanoku OBE

Nwanoku, a double bass player and child of an Irish Mother and Nigerian Father was often the only person of color in the many orchestras she has played in. The Chineke! Orchestra recently made its debut at the BBC Proms, a festival of classica犀利士
l music, becoming the youngest and first orchestra of color to perform at the 103 year old annual event.
