Encore ATX CEO Brandon Thornton Takes the Reins at Hanovers 2.0

Brandon Thornton, CEO of Encore ATX, is trying to find the perfect balance between teaching math and statistics full-time at Austin Community College and running Austin's hottest venue for the mature crowd full-time at night.

Thornton, who is originally from Bloomington, Ill. and moved to Austin three years ago when he accepted the role at ACC, recently assumed responsibility for operating Hanovers 2.0 with his fianceé, OhTiff! founder Tiffany Lopez. Together, they are committed to bringing the same world-class entertainment found in Houston, Dallas and other cosmopolitan cities around the country to Texas’ capital city.

Austin is the perfect place and balance for people of color.

From NBA Finals watch parties to open mic poetry nights to live music and comedy concerts, there is no shortage of events that bear his brand and detailed planning approach — and Hanovers 2.0 is home base.

Thornton hopes that from the moment one arrives in the parking lot at Hanovers, patrons can appreciate the time and effort put into the layout of the venue. It features an outdoor patio, two sand volleyball courts and a rooftop space. Hookah set-ups and a full-service frosted bar provide all of the flavors patrons need for an enjoyable evening out, and the city’s most sought-after deejays, like DJ Donte and DJ Hella Yella, spin the best selection of R&B and Hip-Hop nonstop every weekend. Two 20-feet screens with state-of-the-art staging and lighting set the atmosphere for a sensory experience that draws patrons in.

But it is his commitment to consistency, quality promotion and great customer service that Thornton hopes will really make for an invaluable experience for patrons. “I personally know a lot of people who come to our events, and [I] try to make [sure] everyone who comes has a special evening they will remember,” he says. “Word-of-mouth promotion is the strongest and most important promotion.”

Thornton also emphasizes the importance of relationships and establishing lasting partnerships. “I understand that I can’t do any of this by myself, and I encourage [and] seek out partnerships with people who have great ideas and want to work hard to bring people quality events,” he says.

For instance, Hanovers is celebrating the introduction of Glen Williams’ Rolling Rooster as the in-house food establishment with an opening party August 24 from noon – 6 p.m. From Happy Hour to late-night bites, patrons will be able to enjoy the best fried wings, fish and sides. The kitchen will be open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and weekend brunch will be offered every Saturday morning. Thursdays will feature $1 wing specials.

The Rolling Rooster will be taking over the kitchen at Hanovers 2.0 this month.

Thornton is still trying to balance it all. He and Lopez are busy raising a blended family he has a daughter, and she has a son and a daughter and preparing for their March 14, 2020 wedding (“pi day for the mathematics nerds,” he quips). “Finding that balance between the daytime full-time [job], night full-time [job], and family is tough, but I enjoy the challenge,” he says.

And Lopez has proven the perfect partner in conquering challenge. “She definitely matches my hustle, and we’re kindred souls,” Thornton says.
