Six-Category STELLAR Award winner JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise in Austin for a Community Concert, recognizing community leaders, the late Billy F. Harden of Spectrum Theater and nationally-recognized singer/songwriter, Madame Orean Cosby.
Come out and experience the 2018 Stellar Award winner, JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise, who was recently awarded in six categories for their music and the song, “You Deserve It”. Hosted by Unity Events, we will gather at this Community Concert to celebrate God and honor Billy F. Harden who passed away on Tuesday, April 10th, along with Madame Orean Cosby – who passed away Monday, April 23rd.
Soulfruit, Natori Blue, Maurice Griffin of Sunday Best, Claudia Williams and the St. James Mass Choir and The Levites, will also be ministering at the Community Concert. The event will be held on Saturday, June 30th at 7 pm at St. James Baptist Church, located at 3417 East Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard.
Billy Harden was a founding member of Spectrum Theater – Austin’s first African American Theatrical Company who has also begun teaching youth and the underserved the craft of acting. He was also a minister of music at Metropolitan A.M.E., previously Grant A.M.E. and he played music and song in many arenas in the Austin area. He has also blessed the arts community with many theatrical productions and performances.
Madame Orean Cosby was the founder of the United Family Care Social Services (UFCSS) organization. She was a highly-regarded singer and songwriter that garnered national attention for her powerful singing style and vocals where she led songs such as, “Redeemed” by V. Michael McKay. She was also a pastor of Mashiya Ministries and the Founder of United Family Care Social Services. Madame Cosby’s songwriting led to a 1993 Stellar Award nomination for the La Mora Park Young Adult Choir for “I Love Him” and “He’s Wonderful” in 1993.
