WORKSHOPS CELEBRATE AFRICAN DANCE TRADITIONS FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE!

Dance Africa Fest is a multi-day conference featuring internationally renowned artists in African diaspora dance workshops. On September 28-29 in Austin, TX, Dance Africa Fest presents a powerful weekend conference of workshops focused on dances of the African diaspora! Taught by leading experts, these 90-minute workshops explore a unique blend of traditional and modern dance techniques, accompanied by professional musicians. Highlighting dances from Haiti, Cuba, Mali, and the US! WORKSHOPS SCHEDULE AND LOCATION Presented in partnership with Lannaya Drum & Dance, and Gbeda Acupuncture and Sound Medicine. Location: Balance Dance Studio, Bravo Theatre, 4544 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78745. Professional musicians accompany all workshops. SATURDAY, September 28, 2019

  • 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm: Dance Culture of Ayiti (Haitian Vodou dance) – Jean-Sebastien Duvilaire.
  • 3:15 pm – 4:45 pm: FREE/DONATION-BASED for kids/beginners. Malian dance (West African dance) – Souleymane Solo Sana. Pre-registration required.
  • 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm: Malian dance (West African dance), intermediate/advanced – Souleymane Solo Sana.

  • 9:00 am -10:30 am: Dance Culture of Ayiti (Haitian Vodou dance) – Jean-Sebastien Duvilaire.
  • 10:45 am- 12:15 pm: Afro Modern (Fuses African diasporic modern dance techniques, recognizing the contribution that dances of the African diaspora have given in support of codified techniques. – Michelle N. Gibson. 12:25 pm – 1:25 pm: Lunch break
  • 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm: FREE/DONATION-BASED for kids/beginners. Malian dance (West African dance) – Souleymane Solo Sana. Pre-registration required.
  • 3:15 pm – 4:45 pm: Malian dance (West African dance), intermediate/advanced – Souleymane Solo Sana.
  • 5:00 pm-6:30 pm: The New Orleans Original BuckShop (with live brass band) – Michelle N. Gibson.
