Introduction to the Recorder
January 11, 2018 @ 7:00 pm | 8:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:00pm on Thursday, repeating until February 1, 2018
For adults (18 and up) –
Perhaps you want to learn to play along with your child who has a recorder or you want to play for your own pleasure.
You will learn:
About the recorder and how it makes sound; how to hold the recorder; how to use your breath to make a beautiful tone; basic fingerings for part of the range of the instrument (plus the names of those notes, and how to read them on the page); some tunes to play alone or with the rest of the class.
What we will provide:
A loaner recorder, either soprano or alto, for you to use during the course of the class (if there is interest, we may also have a tenor recorder for loan); a loaner book The Recorder Guide, which we will use together. You can take the loaner materials home to study and practice while the course is in session; if you want to continue, we’ll advise you how and where to get your own recorder and book!
What you will bring:
A folding/portable music stand to use in the class. Willingness to learn something new, and desire to make music. If you already read music, from singing, playing piano, or playing another instrument, that is a plus!
