State of Black Austin ’18: Reclaim, Redefine, Reconnect.
Sat October 20 @ 12:00 pm | 3:00 pm
Join us for a community forum regarding the ever-changing landscape of the Black/ African-American population in and around Austin, Texas.
As Austin has changed so rapidly over the years, so have many of the diverse communities residing here, especially the Black community. Gentrification and increased property taxes are displacing many Black Austinites from East Austin where the vast majority of African-Americans resided due to the City of Austin Master Plan of 1928. This displacement to other parts or completely out of the city raises the question:
WHAT and WHERE is Black Austin today?
‘State of Black Austin’ will be an afternoon of thoughtful, meaningful dialogue. Join us as we find ways to build upon the legacy of Black Austin’s past to reimagine its future.
