Here is the premise: Caleb, a 26 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. When Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he is being asked to perform a series of experiments in which he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, which happens to be created as a beautiful woman.

One of the most intelligent thought provoking, and enjoyable films about artificial intelligence I have seen, and one of the best sci-fi films I have seen in a long time. With just three main characters, there is plenty of time for character development, and Writer/Director Alex Garland takes advantage of this to create wonderful characters that have multi levels that unravel throughout the film.

The actors do a great job; Oscar Isaac, who plays Nathan, is the culmination of Dr. Frankenstein and Steve Jobs and pulls the part off flawlessly. The interactions with actors Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander are fantastic, and you see the relationship build from the first meeting to the very end. Not a face paced movie, so if you want car chases and killer robots this movie is not for you; but if you want to watch a really smart movie about the pros and cons of creating artificial intelligence, then I highly recommend EX MACHINA.
