It Goes Down In My Granny’s Kitchen

Vann Brown, owner and chef at My Granny's Kitchen.

In the south of Austin, you can find one of the city’s most delicious soul food trucks. My Granny’s Kitchen, located at 7800 S. 1st St., has been serving up food that truly warms the soul since 2012.

The truck is open 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 4 p.m.- 9 p.m. on Saturday. You can also make plans to catch Vann Brown, the owner, serving up her delicious menu for the second year at Soul Food Truck Fest on October 27.

Great home cooking. The chicken and dumplings are perfectly seasoned with great texture. The mac n cheese is amazing for how simple it is. I’m excited to visit again and try other offerings.

– D. Durrett Facebook Review

Brown had always dreamed of opening a business that provides family-style meals to the busy, working parent. That dream became a reality 6 years ago when she opened My Granny’s Kitchen.

What’s on the menu?

The big, pink food truck stands out as much as its incredible menu. My Granny’s Kitchen features meatloaf, baked chicken and rice, chicken and dumplings, beef tips and gravy, BBQ brisket, BBQ sausage, mac and cheese, greens, and potato salad.

Brown also cooks up some vegan options like green beans, sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas, and her vegan chicken and dumplings. These delicious options would not be complete without her one-of-a-kind peach cobbler.

What’s the customer favorite?

Brown says traditionally her meatloaf or beef tips and gravy sell out the fastest, but her new addition of BBQ brisket has won over the tastebuds of her customers.

Soul Food Truck Fest 2017 Grand Champion

My Granny’s Kitchen was a featured truck in Soul Food Truck Fest’s first year. Brown says she’s thrilled to participate in the second year because she remembers the awesome energy and the support from the community last year.

Also, last year, attendees loved her truck. She tied for Grand Champion for Best Food Truck at the festival based on the beef tips and gravy sampler they served.

Visit their website or follow My Granny’s Kitchen on Facebook to learn more about their menu and be sure to check out Vann and her team at this year’s Soul Food Truck Fest in October!
