Here’s the premise: Four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.
I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, I really like the Robin Williams movie and felt like it did not need to be remade. I was also disappointed there was no homage to him. I will have to admit, I did enjoy the updated movie, and I especially loved the sound track. I liked how they changed it to a video game; this gave it a fresh new feeling and will connect more with the youth of today. The new cast did a great job. There were several laugh-out-loud moments, and a lot of snicker to yourself times. There were several “jump” scenes and I have to admit that I even screamed once. It was a fun movie and not the disaster I imagined it was going to be.
All the actors did a great job, with Jack Black carrying most of the comedy, but The Rock still got a few lines in.
I recommend this movie and it is perfect for a family outing during the holidays.
