Here is the premise: A corporate risk-management consultant has to decide and determine whether or not to terminate an artificial being’s life that was made in a laboratory environment.
I love movies about artificial intelligence, knowing the technology is here right now and wondering what the future will be like is very exciting to me. Movies like AI, I, Robot, and last year’s movie Ex Machina did it right; so did the trailer of MORGAN, but unfortunately the movie did not.
So, right away, the acting was good, I have no problem with the job they did, everyone did what they could with what they had. The big problem was the script, it did not allow the viewers to really get attached or care about the characters; thus making us not care when someone gets killed. They could have spent a little more time pulling on our hearts and it would have made a huge difference. My other issue with the script and maybe directing, is that the big “aha” moment that is revealed towards the end of the film is so very predictably. I saw it coming close to the halfway mark, maybe a little bit earlier; I have thought of a couple of ways they could have kept this from being figured out quite so fast. If the writers had taken a little more time to develop this film, it could have been so much more like the trailer and would have captured my heart and imagination.
I cannot recommend you pay full price, maybe a matinee; then you will not be so disappointed.
