Here is the premise:  Buster Moon (McConaughey) a dapper koala who presides over a once grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal some might even say delusional optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now faced with the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.

From the moment I saw the trailer to SING I was hooked, it looked like a fun movie and the talent lending their voices to the movie is awesome. Matthem McConaughey is the lead as Buster Moon, he does a great job as the neer do well Koala that is waiting for his big break. McConaughey is joined by Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarland, Scarlett Johansson, John C Reilly, Taron Egerton, and Jennifer Hudson.

The movie is fun, moves fast and I found my toe tapping throughout the film. Each main contestant has their own backstory that is entertaining and has their own life hurdles that they have to overcome; some give us life lessons while some are just plain fun. The story is a simple and old story but writer Garth Jennings found a way to keep it fresh, fun, and funny while giving us a story that also tugs at your heart in places. At times you forget this is an animated film and really start caring about the characters; and that is good writing.

As I do with all animated films, I look at it from an adult as well as a child perspective; SING is great for both. Kids will like the singing and the characters (and the older ones will love the stories) while the adults will really dig the character development and the wonderful life lessons throughout the movie.

I highly recommend SING; take the family during this holiday season.
