The concert was headlined by H.E.R and featured opening act, Marzz, as well as Austin’s very own DJ Hella Yella. And thanks to Livenation, soulciti was front and center to take in the moment.
It had been a while since artist/musician, H.E.R graced our beloved Capitol. I first saw her in concert back in 2018 as she opened for Chris Brown at the Circuit of Americas (COTA). She was a little shy and still finding her stage presence back then. Yet it seems so long ago as the H.E.R’s recent Austin appearance at Waterloo Park was a presentation of both the growth and versatility of the Grammy and Emmy awarding-winning artist.
The show was a vibe from start to end. DJ Hella Yella rocked the crowd with 90s R&B and afrobeat hits that set the tone and had everyone out of their seats. He played all of the Texas favorites and even flexed his signature Lil Keke/Selena mix. The soulful artist Marzz was a nice addition to the lineup and opening act for the tour. Her mellow vibe and authentic personality were well received by the audience as she excitedly introduced each track to the crowd.
H.E.R picked up the momentum with her fun and vibrant entrance. She connected with the crowd as she sang many of our favorite ballads and even played some solos on the guitar and piano. At one point, H.E.R took a moment to look out at the crowd and reflect on her growth. “I remember when I first came to Austin, I was opening for Bryson Tiller. Now I’m headlining my own show” she exclaimed. It was a privilege to share the full-circle moment with her; I can’t wait to see what she cooks up next.
