Lily’s List: Top 5 Food Trucks NOT at Soul Food Truck Fest

As an adventurous eater I love it all….BBQ, tacos, donuts you name it! Here in Austin there are so many to choose from but I decided to go with what I’m currently feeling the most right now.

Little Lucy’s Donuts– Nothing like ending a night on Rainey street and having that delicious smell of hot fresh mini donuts hit your nose . They always have a flavor of the month or you can choose to stick with the classics. You also get 50% of your donut order with any purchase from the Half Step Bar that’s right behind it. East Side King– Japanese street food with a touch of Austin soul and boy do they do it right. The food is always fresh and flavorful and the menu eclectic yet concise. My favorites are the chicken karaage and the Brussels sprout salad. They are open 7 days a week at the Liberty and also have a brick and mortar restaurant on S. Lamar.

Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ– Mesquite smoked BBQ with a Tex Mex twist. I love Valentina’s because not only are the tacos bomb, you can get beef ribs by the pound! They offer both sandwiches and tacos including breakfast tacos and the meat is always smoked to perfection. My favorite is the smoked brisket taco. Their smoked corn is pretty good as well. 11500 Manchaca Rd.

Chi’lantro– Home to original kimchi fries. When I first moved to Austin Chi’lantro was high on the list of places to try. Their menu is simple and who doesn’t love to customize? You start with your base and build your personal  Korean BBQ dish the way you want it. The kimchi fries really hit the spot, if you haven’t yet tried them you should prioritize that.

Hey Cupcake– Delicious gourmet cupcakes are all that’s on the menu here. There’s nothing extraordinary about the flavors, they’re not really big but what they are is good. Soft, moist and delicious. All the makings of the perfect cupcake. The red velvet and carrot cake are my favorites.1511 S Congress

I’m Lily. A mother, entrepreneur, dancer/choreographer, foodie, fitness professional, and music lover who loves to experience the best of everything. Since moving to Austin 3 years ago I’ve made it a point to jump in and experience all that this city has to offer. You can find me eating chicken wings at the Rolling Rooster, practicing yoga with Grow your Lovespace, on the dancefloor at Body Rock or busting a sweat at Twerk N Burn among other places.
