Here’s the premise: Clavius, a powerful Roman Military Tribune, and his aide Lucius, are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem. Clavius is a non-believer and is happy to do what he can to show this is a sham; but the more he uncovers, the more he must confront the truth of the resurrection.
Oh my goodness, what a great movie, and very inspiring. You could actually draw lines from the movie to life today, how we have lost our sense of faith without seeing; we live in a world now where the motto is seeing is believing; but faith is so important in Christianity and you cannot have one without the other. Risen drives this point home beautifully and stays faithful to the bible as they tell the story that picks up basically where Passion of the Christ left us.
Joseph Fiennes does a fantastic job as Clavius, and is surrounded by an awesome cast; Notably Peter Firth as Pilate and Cliff Curtis as Jesus.
Great movie and I highly recommend it.
