Here’s the premise: Just as Michael’s latest relationship comes to an end, he gets into a fatal accident. As Michael is lifted from the scene of his car crash and finds himself in a very bright room with a very strange lady, he learns that for his soul to reach the next plane, he needs to find his soulmate. Michael sets out on a journey dating in the afterlife to find his ideal mate so they can move on together.
Here after is a very sweet movie, the story is a good twist on the “moving on in the afterlife” genre, and gives a new approach to “happy ever after/” As I watched the movie where your relationship is judged, and if you do not have your “soulmate” then you cannot move on, I started thinking about the true meaning of a soulmate, which is not clearly defined in the movie as well. The questions pop up in your mind “what is a true soulmate?” “Shouldn’t I be the one who determines who I spend my eternity with?” along with other philosophical questions.
The cast does a great job and delivers wonderful performances, led by the always awesome Christina Ricci, who does a great job in this movie. Andy Karl carries the movie as the narrator and main character, and does a great job in his role; also Michael Rispoli, who is the comic relief as the friend who is happy being a forever sleaze in the afterlife.
While the movie is good, I would call it a matinee movie.
