The Texas Longhorns had an explosive victory over the Colorado State Rams on Saturday afternoon. They would leave the Rams scoreless, winning 52-0. Texas was firing on all cylinders on offense, and the defense was stout against the pass and the run. The Rams would finish the game with only 192 total yards and two turnovers. Texas finished the game with 545 yards, with multiple players reaching the end zone.
Quin Ewers, Texasβs starting quarterback, finished the game with 260 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. With injuries to CJ Baxter and Christian Clark at running back, Jaydon Blue would get the start in the opener, getting 11 rushing attempts for 57 yards.
The wide receiver transfers would make a name for themselves against the Rams. Isaiah Bond, the transfer from the University of Alabama, would reel in 61 passing yards on 5 attempts and a goal line catch for a touchdown. Matthew Golden, a transfer from the University of Houston, caught 3 passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns. The ball would continue to be distributed between all Texas pass catchers which led to an early lead 31-0 at halftime. The Horns would continue to put pressure on Colorado Stateβs quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, and the game quickly got out of hand.
With the Horns up big, Arch Manningβs name would be called and followed by a standing ovation by the Texas crowd. Arch Manning, the nephew of NFL Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, would make his second official appearance in a Texas uniform. He came into the game and immediately made highlight-level plays. Manningβs biggest play came in the Rams’ red zone in the third quarter where Manning couldnβt find a recipient to pass to, so he would take off towards the goal line, eventually pitching the football to wide receiver Silas Bolden for the touchdown.
Following the touchdown, Manning would continue to dominate in the few drives that he had, finishing the day passing for 95 yards, one touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. Texas then went on to defeat the Rams for their first win of the season. Their next game will be against the reigning National Champion Michigan Wolverines. This game will be hosted in Ann Harbor, Michigan, at the Michigan Stadium on September 7th. The game will be televised by FOX Studios and broadcast by the Texas Longhorn Network on radio.
