Black Films Coming to the Big Screen: August Spotlight

Capital City Black Film Festival is proud to bring you this monthly highlight of films with Black casts, Black crew and telling Black stories. Here’s August’s Black Films Coming to the Big Screen spotlight:

The Darkest Minds

From the producers of Stranger Things, The Darkest Minds is a dystopian thriller starring our girl Amanda Stenberg. The film follows several teens who the government sends to detainment camps after they develop mysterious abilities. It’s set to release August 3.

Blindspotting

Blindspotting dropped July 27, but we had to call out this heavy hitting film for the August highlight. Starring Daveed Diggs, Tisha Campbell-Martin, and a cast full of other actors of color, this drama follows the life and thoughts of a Black man as he begins to re-evaluate his relationship with his best friend.

BlacKkKlansman

Spike Lee is bringing us his latest joint, and it looks interesting. BlacKkKlansman tells the story of Ron Stallworth, a Black police officer who uses his impressively deceptive change of voice to infiltrate a local Ku Klux Klan chapter and become head of the chapter.
