Magic City: An American Fantasy made its theatrical debut last night at the ZACH Theatre as part of the 2024 SXSW Film Festival. Several cast members and crew were in attendance, including Killer Mike, DC Glenn of Tag Team, T. I., and Jermaine Dupri, who was an executive producer for the docuseries.
Director Charles “Chas” Todd and Cole Brown, the creator of the series, were also in attendance. We had the pleasure of speaking with Cole, who stated, “It’s truly a dream come true and so much more than I could have possibly imagined. You know, being on the red carpet with so many people [who] over the generations have made that place what it is . . . I’m speechless. It’s a really, frankly, emotional moment. It’s really gratifying.”
When asked what it meant to be able to contribute to the series, rapper and activist, Killer Mike, said, “I’m from the town. The owner, Michael “Magic”, has been an amazing example with what-you-can-do-isms. So, it means the world to me!”
Magic City is a second home for me. It’s the one place where celebrities, hustlers, politicians, and Atlanta locals all come together.
Performer Wifey Baby shared that she was very excited and grateful for the opportunity. “We’ve been waiting! So, now it’s here, finally. So, we’re going to enjoy this.”
Dupri shared on his EP, “Magic City is a second home for me. It’s the one place where celebrities, hustlers, politicians, and Atlanta locals all come together. I’ve watched it evolve over the years from a local joint to an internationally-recognized spot. It’s about time we tell this story the right way.”

He plays DJ, bartender, and bouncer, while his only dancer separates men from their money. But soon, the celebrities will arrive. Athletes, from Michael Jordan to Shaquille O’Neal, clamber to the club. DC the Brain Supreme mints an iconic hit record from the DJ booth, and Outkast tests songs by watching the girls dance. Within a few years, Magic City would become the most famous strip club in Atlanta, and, soon, the world. But when Mr. Magic gets sent away to federal prison, the empire he’s built may crumble.
