Here’s the premise: When a top-secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, wild card CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown will need to join forces with rival badass German agent Marie, former MI6 ally and cutting-edge computer specialist Khadijah, and skilled Colombian psychologist Graciela on a lethal, breakneck mission to retrieve it, while also staying one-step ahead of a mysterious woman, Lin Mi Sheng, who is tracking their every move.
The two dynamic things about THE 355 is action and chemistry of the actors, and they have this in spades. The main four (Chastain, Cruz, Nyong’o, and Kruger) fit together very well and play off each other like four friends/colleagues to create the perfect team to literally save the world. As for the action, there is plenty of fighting, guns, explosions, chases, and more fighting to keep any action flick fanatic happy.
While the story is similar to a couple other movies I have seen (world destroying device chased after by several countries via their spies) I felt like writers Theresa Rebeck and Simon Kinberg updated it to the technology that we see today; this makes it a little more real and frankly, scarier. Also, my own gripes about the story is predictability of several “twists”, plots that I saw coming a mile away. While the predictability factor was annoying, it did not detract anything from the story for me. One thing that added to the story and is always a plus for me is the cinematography from Director Simon Kinberg, just phenomenal!! The action scenes alone are worth the price of admission.
Overall, great action and awesome cast, which is why I recommend seeing THE 355.
